The key to smooth access control
Software keys activate benefits for customers.

Known for its first-class technical support, Cansec is taking yet another step to help its customers get the most out of its services – as of July 2, 2008, all Cansec software will require software keys for installation.

It’s just a small part of a larger initiative at Cansec to streamline the technical support process. Linking keys to software applications – and by extension, Cansec systems – will allow Cansec product experts to efficiently track and archive technical support calls, and to develop strategies for reducing common technical challenges.

In addition, software registration will allow Cansec to send out timely and pertinent software updates and patches to keep your customers' access control systems working smoothly. Online software registration will soon be available – in the meantime, dealer and site information can be provided at the time of order.

A separate key will be issued with each software order and must be entered during setup in order to complete the installation process. For those customers who enjoy the convenience of downloading software from Cansec’s website, keys can be requested separately via purchase order.

Please refer to the attached software keys outline for more information on software keys.

Starting July 2, software keys will help Cansec streamline its technical support.

Return of an old favorite.
Zodiac Lite back by popular demand.

Responding to high customer demand, Cansec relaunched its Zodiac Lite Fingerprint Reader this week, reviving a popular choice for low-capacity, high-security access control. .

Zodiac Lite offers the rigid security of its biometric cousins, Zodiac Max and Zodiac 250, and makes access requests even easier for users because there’s no PIN to remember. Users simply present their finger to the reader, which searches a small database for a matching template and returns access notification in just two to three seconds.

A simple hand-held programmer is used to enroll up to 90 users, including nine administrators, right at the reader. And like Zodiac 250, Zodiac Lite can be used with a door controller, such as Cansec’s SmartLock controller, for a quick and easy retrofit solution or with a door control module to create a totally PC-free, stand-alone access control system.

For added security, the reader features a vandal-proof glass prism scanner and an encrypted Wiegand data format that is decoded by the door controller or by the door control module, which is designed for safe placement inside the door frame or in an electrical box on the secure side of the door.

Due to popular demand, Cansec has revived the PIN-less Zodiac Lite Fingerprint Reader.

Getting the best of both worlds.
New DVR integration application offers ultimate access control solution.

Access managers will gain greater control and flexibility with a powerful and seamless DVR integration software application released today by Cansec Systems Ltd.

The software combines Watchnet's video recording capabilities with Cansec’s SmartLock Pro access control software, providing users with access to virtually all DVR functions from within the SmartLock Pro interface. And by linking DVR cameras with readers, users can quickly recall specific video footage of any access event simply by selecting an event from SmartLock Pro’s History or Alarm views. This could eliminate hours of searching through video archives for a single minute’s worth of footage.

In addition, a wide range of DVR features offer the flexibility to tailor DVR / access control systems for just about any security application. These features include pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) presets for closely monitoring specific areas of interest; audio capabilities for one-way or two-way audio communication; and video loss / camera mask identification for signaling back-up video recording.

No cables. No PC. No fuss.
Cansec’s newest biometric reader a simpler solution to tougher security

A 100 per cent PC-free, stand-alone biometric access control system is now possible thanks to Cansec’s newest biometric reader, released today.

The Zodiac 250 is the focal point of this stand-alone system. It’s a high-security biometric fingerprint reader made easy. All programming and management takes place right at the reader, eliminating the need to run cables or connect to a PC. All it requires is a small door control module and power supply. The reader stores primary and backup fingerprint templates for up to 250 users and nine administrators in its non-volatile memory, so when the power goes out the templates stay put.

To gain access, programmed users enter a four-digit PIN number and present their finger to the scanner. The Zodiac 250 recalls the template associated with the entered PIN number and verifies whether the presented fingerprint is a match. If the match is positive, Wiegand data sent from the reader signals the door control module – connected directly to the door lock – to unlock the door. A negative match prevents data from being sent and the door remains locked.

Cansec has done the work for you, offering an all-in-one kit with all the parts needed to configure your stand-alone Zodiac system.

“Zodiac 250 offers the increased security of biometrics to those looking for a more straightforward solution than centralized enrollment and PC management,” says Ed Malconian, Cansec’s Senior Design Engineer for the new reader.

It’s also an ideal retrofit solution for anyone looking to upgrade an existing system to biometrics. Zodiac 250 can replace any 26-bit Wiegand proximity reader in as little as five minutes, with no additional cabling or software required. It picks up right where the proximity reader left off. That’s all there is to it.

Also new to the Cansec line-up is the CanProx One dual technology RF transmitter, which allows long-range access control while serving as a short-range proximity credential for the CanProx One proximity reader.

A dying breed of company
Cansec extends a family welcome at annual sales meeting

“In this day and age, a company with such a caring family feel is hard to come by.”

These were words from U.S. Cansec rep Bud Peifer, Peifer Marketing Inc., during summary comments on day two of Cansec’s annual sales conference last week. It was unanimous among the reps – Cansec’s first class hospitality and commitment to relationships were unmistakable.

Nine Cansec reps from across the United States came together in Mississauga, Ontario, to discuss Cansec’s new vision of simplicity. During the meeting, Cansec’s new brand was met with vigorous enthusiasm and reps had the opportunity to tour Cansec’s office and manufacturing facilities and meet with the entire home-base team over creative refreshments.

As the meeting wrapped up, it became clear that the impression left with every rep, including Jack Wincey, Trinity Sales and Marketing, was one of a strong family feel and commitment.

“I know how important it is to [senior management] when it comes to building relationships,” said Wincey in a follow-up letter to Cansec. “But to see and feel that commitment from ALL of [Cansec’s] staff is very refreshing.”

Stand-alone biometrics on the way
New fingerprint reader backs up commitment to simplicity

Simplifying security. That’s Cansec’s vision – and you’ll see the vision hit the product line with Cansec’s newest biometric fingerprint reader, set to be launched in just two weeks.

The Zodiac 250 offers an extra layer of security to those seeking a simpler solution. With no cables needed and no PC required to enroll or manage users, this cutting edge fingerprint reader acts as part of a completely stand-alone access control system with the help of a small door control module and power supply. Administrators can enroll up to 250 users with the reader – at the reader – prompted by easy-to-follow instructions on an LCD display.

It’s just one of the leaps Cansec has recently taken towards further simplifying its products, its customer service and its image; part of a renewed commitment to making things easier for its customers. Expect to see a new Cansec emerge over the coming months, including a brand new website, currently in development, that will bring you more frequent and up-to-date product updates, technical bulletins other resources to help make things simpler for you.

Also new to the Cansec line-up is the CanProx One dual technology RF transmitter, which allows long-range access control while serving as a short-range proximity credential for the CanProx One proximity reader.
